Chloe and her Pacifier

I must admit I am a lazy Mama! Haha...for convenience's sake, I didn't put a stop to Chloe & her Pacifier. Papa reminded me yesterday that he wants to wean her off from her pacifier when Chloe turns 3 years old.

Actually, I didn't think of it until a few months back that my friend told me that her daughter is no longer using pacifier anymore. Her daughter is almost 6 months younger than Chloe. It was merely an incident whereby this young lady accidentally dropped her pacifier into a dustbin, and my friend spontaneously took the opportunity and said to her daughter "Oh, Oh. You throw away your pacifier, no more pacifier already." My friend described it to me that she could see her daughter was staring at the thrown pacifier and didn't know what to do. Since then, she totally quit pacifier.

So, I thought I should give it a try.

Mama : Chloe Daring a.

Chloe : Yes, Mama.

Mama : Tell Mama, are you a big girl or a small girl?

Chloe : Chloe is (a) big girl, Clarisse (is a) small girl. ** Those ( ) words were omitted in her phrase.**

Mama : Yes. Clever Girl. Chloe is Jie Jie and Clarisse is Mui Mui.  Chloe is a big girl and Clarisse is a small girl. And big girls don't suck pacifier anymore. So, can you give Mama your pacifier?

Chloe was proud that Mama acknowledged her as a Big Girl and without hesitation, she passed me her pacifier. But after a while, she cried for her pacifier from Mama.

Mama : ee? I thought Chloe just said you are a big girl? why you still need your pacifier?

Chloe : No. Chloe (is a ) small girl.

Mama : No. Clarisse is a small girl and Chloe is a big girl, Chloe is Clarisse's Jie Jie.

Chloe : No. Chloe (is a) small girl and Clarisse (is) also (a) small girl.

Mama : No... ** Before I can continue, she was already yelling for her pacifier **

I thought well, it was only my first attempt, so I just let it go for once. The next day, I tried the same the big & small girl story again. But, she didn't fall into the same trap again. Since then, I didn't try other methods to wean off her pacifier.

Last night, I tried my luck again since Papa mentioned about it in the afternoon.

Before Chloe came into the room, I hid her pacifier which usually the maid would put next to her pillow before she goes to bed. Without much expectation, she fell asleep without her pacifier BUT a special MAMA back scratch!

Chloe : Mama, where (is) Chloe's Pacifier?

Mama : I don't know **Mama shrugged**

Chloe : Where (is) Chloe's Pacifier. ** Chloe cried impatiently**

Mama : Oh. Mama know. Mama throws away Chloe's pacifier.... **Chloe was very upset and she started to cry even louder

Chloe : I want Pacifier! I want Pacifier! I want Pacifier!

Mama : Sorry dear. Mama throw your pacifier. It was very dirty. You don't want a dirty pacifier right?

Chloe : No...

Mama : Sorry. No more pacifier. I throw away your dirty pacifier.

Chloe didn't know what else to say, but weep quietly with her face facing down on her pillow. Poor girl!! She didn't ask for her pacifier anymore, instead she asked Mama to scratch her back, and then her ears, and then her head and back to her back. She fall asleep with a good back massage WITHOUT pacifier.

Hopefully, the same will happen tonight. So, she can totally forget about her pacifier.

Baby Clarisse's new development - claps her hands

Baby Clarisse can respond quite well now. Baby Clarisse would squeal when she Chloe Jie Jie was playing with Papa or Mama, and let us know that don't leave her out, she wants to join us too. :P

After one or two attendances of Gymboree, Baby Clarisse learns how to clap her hands. Whenever we clap, she claps too. Whenever we sing " If you're happy and you know it clap your hands ", she claps too. She knows how to clap and she know what's a "clap". Jie Jie Chloe loves to applaud to herself whenever she accomplishes something (We always applaud to her whenever she did something good or right. - Chloe loves being praised! :P) Hmm... Maybe Clarisse learns how to clap from Jie Jie Chloe.

Baby Clarisse knows how to open/close her hands/palm a while ago. Now, we are delighted to find out that Baby Clarisse opens/closes her hands when we sing "twinkle twinkle little stars". She can actually relates it to a song.

She is not crawling yet, not even creeping.  She can pull herself up with her both hands like Yoga Cobra Pose and starts kicking her legs, intending to move herself forwards. Hahaha..but her kicks did not move her forwards but backwards. When Baby Clarisse realised that she is actually moved away from the objects that she supposed to reach, she would roll herself over and over, attempting to reach the object but still cannot reach. Hahaha...because she doesn't know the "direction". So Cute!!

-------------------------------------------

Darling Clarisse,

Keep it up. You are doing so well. Keep up your good effort and you will crawl like other babies too. Quickly learn how to crawl so that you can reach your toys whenever you want.

Love,
Mama

Clarisse knows her preferrence

Chloe loves Mama to accompany her to sleep, so most of the time, Mama would spend the night with Chloe while Kakak would make sure Darling Clarisse is asleep first before she goes off. However, once in a while, Clarisse might be awaken by the TALKATIVE Chloe. Just for the past one week, Papa was the one who took charge of Baby Clarisse in the living room while Mama is accompanying Chloe in the bedroom. ** Can't put them together, otherwise it will take forever for them to fall asleep. **

Papa was given the GOLDEN Opportunity to spend time with Baby Clarisse for a few nights consecutively, and naturally the father and daughter's bond developed. Hehe...( * Good for you, Papa! *)

Papa's few nights of effort has been very fruitful. Last night, when Papa was home from work. Papa clapped his hands twice and extended his hands to Clarisse with two palms facing up (This is our Standard gesture before we carry our babies - let's call it a "pow pow" clap). Noone expected any response from a 7 months old Clarisse, and she surprised us by extended her both arms to Papa and her body leaned towards Papa (It means she wants Papa to hold her :P ). This was the first time we saw her responding to a "pow pow" clap.

We were all delighted and Mama immediately put Baby Clarisse back to the couch and did the same "pow pow" clap, but she didn't leaned towards me nor extend her arms to Mama. Sob sob sob...

"You were just lucky," Mama said to Papa.

Papa tried the "pow pow" clap again and Baby Clarisse extended her arms and leaned towards Papa again. Argghhh....
